On September 14, the Thuringian Ministry of Environment and Energy awarded this year’s prize for outstanding achievements in nature and the environment as well as a special commitment to nature conservation. The award ceremony took place on the grounds of the State Garden Show in Apolda.

Among the 17 participants, Mrs. Siegesmund gave a motivating speech to the nature lovers and congratulated the winners. With musical accompaniment the three prizes were awarded. The first prize went to the pastor Jens Bechtloff, the two second prizes to the Save Nature Group and the Weimarer Wohnstätte GmbH. The city of Eisenach has applied to maintain one of the largest orchards in the region.

It is the orchard at the Hofferbertaue and it is 6ha in size with over 400 different old fruit trees. Along with volunteers of the Save Nature Group, this meadow is harvested and processed into apple juice at the Waldorf School together with the children and our traditional juicer in the schoolyard. The resulting juice is marketed regionally and thus funds further conservation projects.

We are so happy with the award. Many thanks to all our helpers during our projects!
